What it is
Evia is a mobile app that delivers a 5-week hypnotherapy program for menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. Mindset Health, an Australian digital health company, built it in partnership with Dr. Gary Elkins, the Baylor University researcher who led the BRIGHT trial, the largest randomized controlled trial of clinical hypnosis for vasomotor symptoms. The app guides users through audio sessions that combine cooling mental imagery, relaxation, and hypnotic suggestion. You listen to one session per day for five weeks, then continue with maintenance sessions as needed.
How well it works
The evidence behind Evia comes from two sources. The BRIGHT trial (n=187) found that clinical hypnosis reduced hot flash scores by 74% at 12 weeks, compared to 17% in the control group (PMID 23435026). A retrospective analysis of 410 Evia app users, published in 2025, found that 76.3% of women with hot flashes and night sweats achieved a clinically significant reduction of 50% or more in daily hot flashes (PMID 39787588). The Menopause Society (NAMS 2023) lists clinical hypnosis as a Level I recommendation for vasomotor symptoms. Evia itself is a wellness app, not an FDA-cleared medical device, but it implements the same protocol tested in the BRIGHT trial.
Where to get it
Evia is available as a mobile app for iOS and Android. You can try it free for 7 days, after which a 3-month subscription costs $139 USD (about $46 per month) through the Apple App Store. You do not need a prescription or a referral. The app is self-guided, so you can use it alongside other treatments including hormone therapy or prescription drugs.
